WHY CARES

Better research starts here.

If you’ve spent any time in real-world evidence, you’ve seen this play out. A dozen teams might publish a definition for something as common as the Charlson Comorbidity Index, and only a handful will tell you exactly which codes and weights they used. Access to the same data wouldn’t have changed that. The problem isn’t the data. It’s transparency. And it’s a problem we’re in a position to help fix.

What changes is a body of work people can inspect and build on: methods they can examine, cohorts they can reuse, researchers trained to build both, and the time to pursue questions that might otherwise go unanswered.

That’s the work of CARES: making the studies that follow more visible, more reproducible, and more useful to everyone who depends on it.

  • Productize OMOP/OHDSI-format cohorts and data other researchers can reuse
  • Contribute to research methodology, including large-scale propensity score modeling and target trial emulation
  • Connect with evidence networks through OHDSI and explore participation in additional networks

Patient Communities

Answering questions for communities that don’t have a research team.

  • Work directly with rare disease groups, patient advocacy organizations, and small nonprofits
  • Answer questions and produce reports using real-world data, in service of underserved patient populations
  • Investigate new uses for existing therapies, such as drug-repurposing projects

CARES brings together researchers, data scientists, biostatisticians, statisticians, and clinical health informaticists across therapeutic areas including oncology, cardiology, mental health, and rare disease.

That multidisciplinary depth lets us move from research question to study design, analysis, and evidence, with the rigor needed for findings to withstand scrutiny and the transparency needed for others to build on them.

PUBLISHED STUDY

Biomarker testing and survival in metastatic NSCLC

Across more than 167,000 patients in our CLEAR claims database, those who received comprehensive biomarker testing and guideline-directed treatment lived significantly longer. Raising testing rates is one of the most actionable levers available for improving survival.
