Real-world data should make research better, not just faster. PurpleLab CARES works with researchers, academic institutions, evidence networks, and patient communities to put our data, methods, and expertise behind their work. Stronger evidence for the whole field, and better outcomes for the patients behind it.
Our purpose is to make real-world research more reproducible and more human.
Better research starts here.
If you've spent any time in real-world evidence, you've seen this play out. A dozen teams might publish a definition for something as common as the Charlson Comorbidity Index, and only a handful will tell you exactly which codes and weights they used. Access to the same data wouldn't have changed that. The problem isn't the data. It's transparency. And it's a problem we're in a position to help fix.
What changes is a body of work people can inspect and build on: methods they can examine, cohorts they can reuse, researchers trained to build both, and the time to pursue questions that might otherwise go unanswered.
That's the work of CARES: making the studies that follow more visible, more reproducible, and more useful to everyone who depends on it.
Integrity. Evidence that holds up.
A research team with 210+ peer-reviewed journal articles to its name.
Collaboration. Better together.
Academic institutions, evidence networks, and patient communities bringing questions our data and our team can help answer.
Impact. Put to work.
50+ study sponsors across government, CRO, nonprofit, biotech, and pharma.
Built to make evidence more reliable, not just more available.
Four ways PurpleLab CARES puts better evidence into practice:
Reproducible Research
Research we conduct, publish, and put through peer review.
- Conduct original research on the questions that matter most, using transparent, well-documented methods
- Replicate published studies to verify and extend what other researchers have found
- Perform sponsored research that produces rigorous, defensible evidence
- Publish thought leadership that puts findings in front of the people who need them
Rigorous Methods
Methods and tools that raise the reliability of research industry-wide.
- Build transparent, operational definitions into study design from the start, not audited after the fact
- Validate and advance research methods through education in shared best practices
- Contribute to the tools that put those practices to work
- Curate, standardize, and evaluate real-world data to ensure fitness for purpose
Academic Partnerships
Mentorship and study design help, alongside the data.
- Co-design studies directly with faculty and students
- Mentor academic researchers in best practices through hands-on training
- Provide opportunities to collaboratively publish studies that use PurpleLab’s representative real-world data
- Support grant- and industry-sponsored projects with data access and linkage
Patient Communities
Answering questions for communities that don’t have a research team.
- Welcome patient voices from foundations, rare-disease groups, and patient advocacy organizations into our research
- Surface patient perspectives and prioritize unanswered questions
- Support underserved patient populations through projects such as investigating new uses for existing therapies
The research depth behind CARES.
CARES brings together researchers, analysts, data scientists, biostatisticians, epidemiologists, and clinical health informaticists across therapeutic areas including oncology, cardiology, mental health, and rare disease.
That multidisciplinary depth lets us move from research question to study design, analysis, and evidence, with the rigor needed for findings to withstand scrutiny and the transparency needed for others to build on them.
We map treatment flows and disease progression using claims linked with social determinants of health data, and measure outcomes and cost of care using standardized, CMS-based pricing models.

What the data shows us.
Biomarker testing and survival in metastatic NSCLC
Across more than 167,000 patients in our CLEAR claims database, those who received comprehensive biomarker testing and guideline-directed treatment lived significantly longer. Raising testing rates is one of the most actionable levers available for improving survival.
Kidney health monitoring in diabetic patients, 2020-2024
As one of fewer than 20 certified Qualified Entities, we report annually on industry-standard quality measures. This year's report tracks Kidney Health Evaluation attainment and disparities by payer type and state, combining our claims warehouse with Medicare Parts A, B, and D.
Precision or Illusion? PurpleLab® × Navidence
Four conversations on how operational definitions get built, and what happens when they don’t agree. Each episode is built around a real ISPOR poster. Hosted by PurpleLab’s Scott DuVall and Navidence’s Aaron Kamauu.
