PurpleLab QE Reports

As a certified QE, PurpleLab® is proud to publicly report industry-standard measures and CMS-approved alternative measures to make insights into provider performance, including cost and quality data, transparent.

Qualified Entity Certification Program

The Qualified Entity Certification Program (QECP) was created as part of the Affordable Care Act to facilitate health system improvement using insights from data. The program allows Qualified Entities to apply to receive CMS claims data for the purpose of combining that data with a commercial data set and using it to report back publicly on health system quality measures.

A Qualified Entity (QE) is an organization permitted to combine Medicare data with other claims data to report on quality measures that can be used to improve the performance of healthcare providers and suppliers. Once certified under the Quality Entity Certification Program (QECP), QE’s are eligible to receive standardized extracts of Medicare Parts A, B, and D data.

Measures available to QEs for public reporting are maintained on a list of Standard measures by the QECP. If a QE feels that use of alternative measures would be more valid, reliable, responsive to consumer preferences, cost-effective, or relevant to dimensions of quality and resource use not addressed by standard measures, a QE can choose to report alternative measures in place of or in addition to standard measures. To see the current list of standard measures and learn more about alternative measure reporting, please visit QECP Standard and Alternative Measures on the QECP website.

In compliance with QECP Rules and Regulations, QE’s are required to report on selected standard measures and CMS-approved alternative measures annually within one year of receiving the data.

PurpleLab 2024 QE Reports

PurpleLab’s standard and alternative measure reporting leverages, combines, and compares two sources of data:

  1. PurpleLab’s comprehensive warehouse of de-identified patient medical and pharmaceutical claims in compliance with HIPAA.
  2. 100% of medical claims data received under the QECP for Medicare Parts A, B, D from 2020 through 2023. Please see CMS Research Data and Assistance Center to learn more.

Both standard and alternative reports measure PurpleLab’s commercial claims warehouse and combined data sources (PurpleLab’s commercial claims + QE Medicare data). All measures in the standard and alternative public reports are benchmarked at the national level.
For QE public reporting, PurpleLab adheres to CMS cell suppression policy to protect data privacy.

2024 QE Standard Measures Report

This report highlights one standard measure available as a QE. The measure is all claims-based and looks at hospital readmissions after discharge. The data compares the differences in the commercial and Medicare populations. Purplelab chose the measure based on the data available in our HealthNexus™ platform.

VIVVA Scores Report

VIVVA Scores are provider performance scores developed in addition to its selected standard measures. Leveraging PurpleLab’s Connected Real-World Data™ and 100% of Medicare Parts A, B, and D claims to meaningfully score healthcare professionals, PurpleLab’s VIVVA Scores provide healthcare professionals and consumers with valuable information to make informed decisions about healthcare providers.

VIVVA Scores deliver a) component performance metrics on experience, influence, quality of care, cost of care, and adoption of innovative treatments, b) composite scores which nationally benchmark all providers to their peers (ie. cardiologists compared to cardiologists), and c) aggregated VIVVA Scores.

PurpleLab’s VIVVA scores are comprised of:

Volume

Volume of patients and claims
Industry Influence
Accepted industry payments
Variation in Outcomes
Quality of care (mortality, days in acute care, & complications)
Variation in Costs
Cost of care (Charges to patients & charges to visits)
Adoption of Innovation
Measure of innovative procedures
